Lesson 3: BASIC Kinesiology Taping: Taping Movements, Not Muscles – Dr. Steven Capobianco 

Duration: 1 Hour

This course introduces the learner to functional taping methods that can improve the movement and performance of patients and clients. It includes a review of current literature supporting the theories that describe and delineate specific techniques of applying kinesiology taping for enhancement of rehabilitation or performance outcomes. It is an evidence-informed kinesiology taping course that advances attendees’ understanding of the efficacy of elastic therapeutic taping as a rehabilitation and performance intervention for patient and client conditions ranging from pain mitigation to improving fluid dynamics and sharpening proprioception.

Lesson 4: SPRT Therapy: Functional Taping Fundamentals – Dr. Tim Brown 

Duration: 1 Hour

Superficial Proprioceptive Response Technique is a neuromuscular based treatment and taping technique developed by Sport Medicine Legend and Innovator Dr. Tim Brown…based on over 40 years of working with the highest level athletes on the front lines of competition. Developed to improve performance, reduce injury risk and get the best of the best back quicker after injury. This incredibly valuable information will help you get better outcomes and help more patients, clients and athletes perform at a higher level and return quicker from injury.

The SPRT treatment system focuses on using the peripheral and cutaneous nervous system to stimulate neuro musculoskeletal balance to improve joint centration.

The SPRT taping approach utilizes rigid, non stretch, strong adhesive strapping tape to create a “soft tissue lever” called the approximation/compression tab. As and example…This lever or tab is used to approximate the two ends of the damaged soft tissue (strain).

Once the A/C Tab is complete and the lesion from the injury is reduced, Kinesiology Tape is then applied to skin at a point away from the injury in a direction and angle you want the body to move toward that supports improved alignment and function.

One of the many unique features of this system is the clinician is encouraged to receive feedback from the patient throughout the session that guides specific direction/angle/pressure and support to create the best treatment and support possible.

Lesson 5: SPRT Therapy: Taping Strategies for the Foot and Ankle – Dr. Tim Brown

 Duration: 2.5 Hours 

This course will take an in depth look into the history, philosophy and science behind Specific Proprioceptive Response Technique (SPRT) and its application to the spine, extremities and its role in Sports Medicine. You will learn the examination and assessment process for common spine and extremity injuries in sports as it relates to SPRT. The course will include lecture followed by functional taping and soft tissue treatment techniques allowing the clinician to immediately put into practice.

Lesson 6: Fascia and Fluid Pumping to Improve Joint Biomechanics – Dr. Jason Amstutz

Duration: 1 Hour 

Human biomechanics occur via a delicate balance of compressive and tensile forces in the body. Also known as BioTensegrity.

The fibrous structures: ligament, tendon to tendon with aponeurosis, periosteum, labrum, meniscus, annular fibers of IVD, and others, are all collagen based Fascia.  These manage the ‘tensile’ forces.

The fluid components: synovial, bursae, ECMatrix, lymph, fat pads & un- organized adipose for movement (between scapula & serratus AND serratus & rib cage), nucleus propulsus of IVDisc, and others, help to manage the compressive forces.

To treat and alter the fluidic components raises the bar/game in musculoskeletal care/ sports rehabilitation.

Lesson 9: Foundation Training: Decompression Training for Pain and Performance – Dr. Eric Goodman

Lesson 10: Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization: Application to Sport Performance and Rehabilitation – Dr. Michael Rintala

The nervous system establishes programs that control human posture, movement and gait. This ‘motor control’ is largely established during the first critical years of life. Therefore, the “Prague School” emphasizes neurodevelopmental aspects of motor control in order to assess and restore dysfunction of the locomotor system and associated syndromes.

Lesson 11: The Role of Breathing Patterns in Posture, Movement, and Sports Performance – Dr. Robert “Skip” George

Duration: 1 Hour

The purpose of this presentation is to understand how breathing patterns play a critical role in posture, movement, and sport performance. The two roles of the diaphragm will be described including how crural attachments to the lumbar spine as well as delivery of airflow and pressure into a chest wall drive pelvis, ribcage, and spinal movement and position.  Understanding asymmetrical differences, left hemi-diaphragm and right hemi-diaphragm, is essential in managing airflow as it relates to patterns of breathing that directly affect posture, performance and gait.
