Red Light Therapy for Inflammation

Inflammation has been shown to be a major component of all kinds of injuries and illnesses, ranging from orthopedic injuries to heart disease to Alziemer’s disease.  It has proven to be a detrimental factor for the health and well-being of millions of people in the US.  The use of Red Light and Near Infrared light as a treatment and recovery tool has exploded recently and the literature surrounding this powerful modality suggests that it an significantly help to moderate the inflammatory processes.  Specific wavelengths of light can be absorbed through the skin and into our visual field to trigger physiological changes in our body to effectively stimulate healing and repair.  Red Light Therapy is a safe, effective, evidence-based treatment option for treating a wide range of medical conditions.  This course will review mechanisms for RLT for its most evidence-based indications and how it can be used to manage inflammation within the body.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the historical uses of light therapy for health and healing
  • Understand how photobiomodulation works to modulate inflammation
  • Prescribe photobiomodulation parameters to manage chronic and acute conditions
