Lesson Plan

This webinar is geared for rehab specialists, in particular physical therapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers and massage therapists, who are interested in learning about negative pressure therapy (also known as myofascial decompression or cupping) in the clinical setting. The presentation will introduce clinicians to the negative therapy using a pneumatic cupping system that includes vibrational as well as intermittent suction, and demonstrate how this therapy can improve patient outcomes via reduced swelling and lymphatic drainage.

 

Objectives:

  • Review the history and principles of negative pressure therapy (aka Myofascial Decompression or Cupping) with regards to use in manual therapy, including lymphatic drainage
  • Explain the indications and contraindications for using negative pressure
  • Identify practical applications and use of the LymphaTouch device in the clinical setting
  • Gain basic skill set using LymphaTouch to reduce swelling and increase range of motion
  • Live demonstration showing static and dynamic usage
  • Q & A

Course Instructor

Jim Wagner, OTR/L Jim Wagner, OTR/L

Dr. Wagner is an occupational therapist/certified hand therapist with 27 years of clinical experience working in the upper extremity orthopedic settings. He received his post professional clinical doctorate from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions with a specialty in hand therapy. Dr. Wagner is credentialed in physical agent modalities and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Jim is currently the team leader of the Guthrie Hand Center. Jim is an adjunct professor at both Keuka and Ithaca College occupational therapy programs. He has traveled extensively teaching topics such as kinesiology taping, cupping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobility, orthotic fabrication and blood flow restriction training. Jim is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, has been published in the practice forum section of the Journal of Hand Therapy and serves on the education division of the ASHT.
